Chile : Handbook : Prices and Cost

PRICES AND COST

Business information

General Aspects

In Chile the Neoliberal System is enforced in regards to economics, which is why there is freedom of pricing. Product prices are found to be in constant change, according to the swing of offer and demand and in accordance with the country's commercial trade agreements.

For this reason, the cost of Residential Water and Electricity Services are regulated by the corresponding Pricing Laws. Determined by the respective superintendent's technical calculations.

For other prices such as tickets for Public Transportation on tendered routes, the final cost is calculated according to a formula used monthly which considers gas, the variety of laborers , tires and the cost of replacing buses.

The prices and or costs that are shown belowe were compiled from open sources such as Sernac Studies; Distribution Rates and/or Price Regimen from the Gas and Electricity Superintendents; High Marked Costs created by the National Energy Commision; etc.

Unless otherwise indicated, the costs and/or prices presented represent averages from the Eastern sector of Santiago.

Housing

Rental Apartment in Eastern Sector

For renting an apartment, its key to know that the costs derived from associated services increase the cost that must be paid monthly. Before renting an apartment, we recommend that you ask how much apartment building “community expenses” are on top of the rental price. Those from the Eastern sector in general are high.

The prices of properties are given in UF, so the rental cost is defined according to this factor. To calculate the final cost of rent in pesos, it's necessary to multiply the number of UF by the cost in chilean pesos. To check the up to date value of the UF, visit this site.
