Valparaiso and Surrounding Area
Two hours from Santiago lies Viña del Mar, famous for its
beaches such as Reñaca and Concón, the Casino of Viña
del Mar, and the International Festival of Viña del Mar,
making it a year-round attraction for national and international
visitors alike to enjoy the beaches and the pleasant climate.
On one side of Viña del Mar is Valparaíso,
the legislative center of the country. A city with much history,
its colorful constructions decorate the hillsides providing the
city with its characteristic architecture and unique identity.
There are other important beach resorts of the central zone on
the outskirts of Viña del Mar, such as Papudo,
Cachagua, Maitencillo, San Antonio, Cartagena and Santo
Domingo, where one can practice water sports such as surfing,
diving, windsurfing, and sailing.
Also near Viña del Mar are some cultural highlights such
as the houses of Nobel prize winner in literature, Pablo Neruda.
One is located in Valparaíso and the other in Isla Negra.
