The Quinamavida Hot Springs, which means "five hills"
in the Mapuche language, is located about 10 miles (16 km) northeast
of Linares in the Seventh Region, near the shores of Colbun Lake.
They are open year round.
The legend says that the source of the springs was discovered by
a woodsman that was surrounded by a forest fire and because he was
in the water and protected by the vapor, he managed to survive without
suffering any injuries. The woodsman's name has been lost in the
sands of time, but the source of these springs continues flourishing,
even though nowadays the waters are being channeled to avoid pollution.
In 1876 the springs were known as healing fountains of water. These
hypothermic, tepid waters rise up from the ground at favorable temperatures
between 64°F and 80°F. They are ideal for a pleasant and
relaxing bath. At one time these waters were exported to Europe
as mineral water for drinking and they were hardly used as a tourist
resource. Nowadays, specials on hotel stays and improvements in
its infrastructure have changed the situation.
The springs of Quinamavida are famous for their therapeutic value
and help relieve symptoms related to arthritis, rheumatism, bronchitis,
asthma, sinusitis, cystitis, renal and gastrointestinal illnesses,
and skin conditions. They also benefit cardiac activity and stress
as well as nervous illnesses.
Besides the traditional baths in warm outdoor pools and sheltered
pools, Quinamavida Springs also offers Jacuzzi baths, Turkish baths,
steam baths, and mud baths that cleanse and calm the skin and remove
all signs of stress. Because the water is so pure it is even suitable
for drinking.
Oligominerals, mainly sulfates, are present in these warm waters
as well as traces of calcium, potassium, and sulfur at a pH of 7.3.
The mud from the ground is comprised of medicinal minerals and vegetable
minerals.
Combat stress and fatigue through reflexology and massage therapy
sessions. Or receive an exclusive treatment that combines the mud
from the thermal waters with natural bee honey that cleanses, nourishes,
and improves the skin's condition.
Visitors can take walks and participate in excursions in and around
the Quinamavida Hot Springs, admiring the forests, mountains, and
lovely landscapes. It's the perfect scenario for exercising and
breathing in some fresh air.
You might like to make a short visit to the town of Rari, known
for its handicrafts and miniatures made from horse's mane as well
as blankets, large shawls, blankets made of lamb's wool, and woven
knits using a loom. Some other interesting places near Quinamavida
are the town of Yerbas Buenas and Colbun Lake where you can go swimming,
enjoy water sports and even go on a horseback riding excursion through
the area.
Last but not least is Los Bellotos National Reserve, where you
can go hiking, take walks as you snap photos, and admire the variety
of native flora and fauna.
