The Del Amarillo Hot Springs are located 19 miles (30 km.) from
Chaiten in the Lakes Region, in an area surrounded by lush vegetation
and known for its raw, natural beauty.
To get to this thermal center you must follow a detour route that
begins on the Austral Road. It's unpaved but in good condition.
There is no public transportation to the hot springs, therefore,
you will need a car to drive there or sign up with one of the various
excursions that goes to Del Amarillo Hot Springs.
The water originates from the springs of Michimahuida Volcano,
they are hyperthermic, meaning extremely hot, reaching average temperatures
of 125°F (52°C). They are abundant in sulfur and recommended
for the relief of rheumatic illnesses, but we strongly advise those
who have collagen illnesses, psoriasic arthritis and rheumatoid
fever to not bathe in the hot springs.
You can take advantage of Del Amarillo's hot and calming waters
not just through traditional baths, but also through mud and steam
baths that cleanse and purify the skin and revitalize your metabolism,
making all your stress and fatigue disappear.
Activities that visitors can participate in around the area include
hiking excursions, sightseeing, taking photos of flora and fauna,
among others.
If you have a little time to spare, there are plenty of places
nearby worth visiting. For the more adventurous tourist, there are
guided hikes to the Michimahuida Volcano and Yelcho Glacier, passing
through beautiful, dense forests on the way. Excursions conclude
with a stroll among the eternal ice of the Yelcho Glacier, formed
in that very place thousands of years ago. You will be blessed with
a spectacular view of the area's indomitable nature boasting forests
together with glaciers, making this experience truly unforgettable.
Another place of interest south of Chaiten is the Yelcho Lake,
and according to many is one of the most beautiful lakes in Chile
with its sparkling, emerald green waters surrounded by hills, forests,
and glaciers. The town of Puerto Cárdenas is located north
of the lake. This is the departure point for sport fishing excursions
that last several days traveling to different coves and nearby islands.
The Blanco and Negro (White and Black) Lakes are located even closer,
7.5 miles (12 km.) from Chaiten. Larch forests embrace the lakes
where sport fishing or swimming is ideal.
Del Amarillo Hot Springs is the top choice for adventurers who
also seek to relax in the thermal waters while enjoying nature and
all its wonder.
