Hornopiren National Park was created in 1988 and is administrated by CONAF. Boasting a 48.232 hectare surface located in the community of Hualaihue, Province of Palena, this park includes the area of the Pacific Patagonian mountain range where we find the Yates Volcano (2.187 meters), Hornopiren Volcano (1.572 meters), and the watershed of the Negro River.
This park has about 3000 hectares of glacier fields. The vegetation covers almost 50% of the surface of the park, with a landscape molded by the volcanic activity and the glaciers. The other part of the surface is covered by snow, lakes and lagoons, rocky zones and glaciers. It's vegetation is composed mainly of Larch, Lenga, replanted Coigue, and evergreen trees standing out among them such as the Tepa, Ulmo, Coigue of Chiloe and Luma.
From Hornopiren, through the sector of Chaqueihua, there is access to Hornopirén National Park . Here the beautiful waters of the Blanco and Negro Rivers can be admired and the General Pinto Concha Lake can be enjoyed along with the majesty of the Hornopiren Volcano whose altitude reaches 1572 meters.
A path starts at the entrance of the park, leading for 8 kms., ascending to the Blanco River watershed and continues up past the tree line to arrive at a CONAF post. |
