Canoeing on the Sargazo lake

WHAT TO SEE

Perhaps the main attraction of this park is simply to enjoy the beautiful wooded landscape and lagoons hidden within the forest. Especially in some of the more primitive areas of the park: Chaicas river valley, Chaiquenes lagoon, Triángulo lagoon, Fría lagoon, Sargazo lagoon and Pangal. It is also worth it to visit the Chaicas river waterfall.

Surrounding the Sargazo Lagoon close to the Fría Lagoon in the Correntoso sector is an area of alerces approximately 800 years old and another section about 3 thousand years old.

Walking: in all areas of the park.
Wildlife observation: in all areas of the park.
Boat trips: in Chaiquenes lagoon and in areas bordering the park (Reloncavi Estuary for example) 

TRAILS

Trail

The park has a network of trails which allow you to discover beautiful, ancient forests and lagoons. The trails are suitable for backpackers and other visitors who are in good physical condition. The main stretches are as follows:  

Correntoso-Pangal River: 3.2 km (2 mi) long and takes approximately between 1.5 and 2 hrs. to hike.

Pangal River-Shelter: 2.1 km (1.3 mi) long and takes 45 to 60 min.

Lake Sargazo: between the Conaf guard post and the west side of the Sargazo lake, bordering the lake. 4 hours taking a mountain path.

Lake Sargazo-Fría Lagoon: 4.5 km (2.8 mi) taking approximately 3 hrs. Beginning on the west side of the Sargazo lake until the Fría lagoon.

Chaicas river waterfalls: 1,640 ft long trail, approximately 20 min.

Chaiquenes Lagoon-Triángulo Lagoon: 3 km (1.8 mi) and takes approximately 2 hrs.

FACILITIES

Area Administration: located in Puerto Montt.

Entrance

Park Ranger office: the park has four guard posts found in Correntoso, Sargazo, in the Chapo lake sector and in the Chaicas river valley. Each one is occupied by at least one park ranger.

Camping sites: in the Correntoso sector which is situated at the entrance to the park from Correntoso village. 5 sites are available with cooking range, table area, and waste services.

Accommodations: The Alerce Mountain Lodge is located outside the park. There are no stores to buy food and supplies within the park, only shelters.

Shelters (refugios) : Along the network of trails there are three shelters available (each 98.4 square feet): on the Pangal river, Sargazo lagoon and the Fría lagoon.

Services outside the area: 
First Aid: Correntoso post, 2.5 km (1.5 mi) from the ranger's office; Lake Chapo post, 14 km (9 mi) from the village of Correntoso. Chaicas post, 11 km (7 mi) from the sector's park ranger office.
Shops for food supplies: Correntoso, Lenca and Puerto Montt.
Telephone: In Puerto Montt 32 km (20 mi) from Correntoso, and 47 km (29 mi) from the Chaicas guard post.
