It is located just 18 m. (59 ft.) above sea level and boasts a
surface area of 40 sq. km. (25 sq. mi.). These warm waters are surrounded
by dense pine forests along the shores of the lake that practically
block any view of the lake. There are bathing areas and lovely homes
along the coast.
Its name comes from the Mapuche, "vilu" meaning snake,
and "lafquen" meaning lake. The lake was given this name
because of its shape. The landscape is characterized by pine tree
forests that grow along the lake shores as well as summer homes,
campsites, picnic areas, and lodging and food establishments.
The main activities are water sports; water skiing, sailing, and
windsurfing.
The lake features a complete tourist infrastructure. Recreational
activities and events are organized for people of all ages to participate.
There is a nautical school located on the southwestern shore of
the lake and the Vichuquen Marina is situated in Aquelarre, along
with a hotel, restaurant, supermarket and horse and boat rental.

How to get there
Main access from the city of Curico on Route J-60 heading
towards the coast. After 84 km. (52 miles), you will arrive
at Hualañe. Continue 3 km. more until Route J-80.
Veer left and go 41 km. (26 miles) until you get to Llico.
From Llico, take the road to the lake.
